Ceramics shaped by form, surface and alchemy

John Van Unen began working with ceramics at an early age, returning to it more seriously over the past few years.

His work explores the relationship between form and surface, with a focus on organic shapes and material detail. Influenced by both nature and architecture, he often moves between the two in his approach to each piece.

An interest in chemistry led him deep into glazes, where much of the work takes shape. Each glaze is developed in-house, with an emphasis on variation, effects, and how surfaces respond through the firing process.
